Step back in time and onto the silver screen with Drimnagh Castle, a captivating location that has served as a backdrop for a variety of films and series. Let's take a cinematic journey through the productions that have graced these historic halls:

  • The Abduction Club (2002): This comedic romp follows a group of bored gentlemen who decide to spice up their lives by "abducting" (with the ladies' consent of course) eligible bachelorettes for thrilling weekend adventures. Intrigue and romance ensue in this light hearted escape. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0264333/

  • Ella Enchanted (2004): Anne Hathaway stars in this charming adaptation of Gail Carson Levine's novel. Ella, cursed with obedience at birth, sets out on a quest to break the spell and find true love. Drimnagh Castle provides a picturesque setting for her fantastical journey.  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0327679/

  • The Tudors (2007-2010): This critically acclaimed historical drama delves into the reign of King Henry VIII. Drimnagh Castle's grandeur serves as a fitting backdrop for the series' portrayal of courtly intrigue, political machinations, and the king's infamous love life. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0758790/

  • The Old Curiosity Shop (2007): Based on Charles Dickens' classic novel, this film tells the story of kind hearted shopkeeper Nell Trent and her grandfather. Facing financial ruin, they embark on a journey filled with hope and heart warming encounters. Drimnagh Castle's rich atmosphere adds to the film's portrayal of Dickensian London.  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1023343/

  • 2021 – The Silence of Mercy. Directed by The Handmaid’s Tale episodic director Floria Sigismondi, this movie follows a woman who chooses a life enclosed, to face her personal demons as she’s challenged to break the walls of morality. This was a visually strong film inspired by painters Bruegel and Bosch, with very detailed sets. Our opera stage set featured rotted fruit garlands, flying owls and ravens and a feast of offal. It also allowed me to venture into areas like head dress design which made it into the title card of the film. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13830352/

  • 2023 – Mayfair Witches (Netflix). Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches, or simply Mayfair Witches, is an American supernatural horror thriller drama television series created by Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford, based on the novel trilogy Lives of the Mayfair Witches by Anne Rice. The series stars Alexandra Daddario as Rowan Fielding, Harry Hamlin as Cortland Mayfair, Tongayi Chirisa as Ciprien Grieve, and Jack Huston as Lasher. Mayfair Witches is the second television series set in the Immortal Universe, a shared universe based on Rice's novels, which started in 2022 with Interview with the Vampire. The series premiered on AMC on January 8, 2023. In February 2023, the series was renewed for a second season which premiered on January 5, 2025. In April 2025, the series was renewed for a third season. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayfair_Witches
